If Borlach was so sure that this is how it was faked, he could have at least drawn a link from the downcomer rod to the axle screw that would WORK. If I read Bessler correctly, those "cranks" were pointed, and went into a socket of iron in the axle, and were stationary.
If those were moving pins through the wooden columns, the holes in the wood would wear sloppy REAL quick.
